In this episode, we take a look at the beginning of formal philosophy in the Northern kingdoms of India. There was a climate of questioning and social change which then pushed thinkers to examine the fundamental nature of their world and reality itself. Much like the debates on dharma and karma, appropriate role and conduct and the best way to lead a fruitful life, these debates went deeper in to the asking the “secret of the universe” questions. Out of this developed, schools and universities and schools of thought and even religions.

This episode should finally set on the track, as next we’ll see how the rulers and kings of the day used this time of change to make their own moves

    Vivek,

I’ve only just discovered your podcast and am currently listening to episode3 as I write this.

So far very impressed: love your sense of humor, your geek creeds (2 episodes with as many Pratchett references? I applaud you), and that from you we get proper and not anglicized pronunciation.

My gripe: your production schedule! I’ll be caught up by the end of next week :'( and desperately waiting for the next.

Keep up the good work, just a bit faster to sustain my history addiction!

Hi Mike, thanks so much… I’m glad you’re enjoying the podcast. Haha ! thanks (I’ll let you in on a secret.. .there’s a Pratchett Easter egg in every episode :D)

I agree, I’ve been slow and erratic. I’m working on fixing that and get some episodes in the bag before i publish. But I’ll confess my work schedule is just swamping me. But I don’t want to make too much of an excuse.
Happy to push your history fix. New episodes coming soon.

Vivek. Just started ur podcasts last night. I’m already on episode 5now. Very nice material and I just enjoy the timbre of your voice. There was another podcast which kinda dwells in the same genre called ss the history of India podcast. Production values are good but the gap music between sentences is mundane at best, plus its hosted by a British man and that’s just unsettling. There’s something soothing to listen about india’s History from an INDIAN. KEEP IT UP. Hope you come with new episodes quickly

Hi Abhishek, thanks, making the podcast is really hard work ; especially doing exhaustive research, keeping it interesting and engaging and I’m glad you’re enjoying it, so hearing from listeners is always motivating. I have heard The History of India by Kit Patrick, and in fact I know Kit. He’s doing a good job. It’s an earnest presentation and he’s aware of his perspective and background and cognisant of how that would be received. So I wouldn’t be too harsh 🙂

I am really glad to be one of the few Indian history podcasts (in subject and origin) and the need for an Indian voice in the history podcast universe was a definite motivation for me. New and more episodes coming soon! Stay subscribed and tell all your friends! 😀

Vivek, will there ever be a continuation? Or should I just unsubscribe to clean out my list of podcasts, with a sad sigh and a resigned shrug? At this point I’d probably have to start over, because I forgot everything from the first episodes and it’s been coming on 8 months. Soon it will be be the length of an average human pregnancy!

Mike, yes there wil be more episodes. I know it’s been really long for the next ones to come out but I’d had to deal with a fews things, and now I’m back on track. If I can extend the metaphor; every episode does feel like ardous labour though the pleasure comes afterwards. Hold on for a little while longer. 🙂

    Hi Vivek, another fan arrives!

Keep to the work. I loved the way you referenced the other history podcasts in the intro show and first episode. Touching on the language too nailed it as I listen to all those shows.

Looking forward to the next update. Glad I found you!
